Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

SENDCo: Mrs Green & Mrs Keleher, Maternity Cover (Mrs Maxfield – MAT Leave)

At Bryn Offa CE Primary School we will support your child to achieve the best they can.

At times, children may need extra help with their learning and development and this page will show you the range of support that is available here at Bryn Offa.

As always, we will work with parents, carers and other agencies, as necessary, to ensure your child has access to the educational provision required to meet their needs.

Should you want to talk about a SEND need or concern:-

The first person to contact is your child’s class teacher.

Your next point of contact is Mrs Green or Mrs Keleher (SENDCo).

Appointments can be made via phone call 01691 830 621, email admin@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk or speaking in person in the morning on the door.

What is SEND?

‘A child or young person has SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them.

A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

(a) have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or

(b) have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.’

(SEND Code of Practice 2015)

This is a broad definition covering all children and young people from 0-25 years of age.

The SEND Code of Practice 2015 identifies 4 main areas of need:

  1. Communication and Interaction
  2. Cognition and Learning
  3. Social, Mental and Emotional health
  4. Sensory and/ or Physical Needs

All schools are required to provide information to parents about how they will support children and their families if a child is deemed to have special educational needs. The provision and support offered at Bryn Offa CE Primary School is constantly evolving and adapting to the needs of its pupils. As a result, the information on these pages concerning SEND will be reviewed and updated regularly.
